For many years Harcourt Matthews has been retained to support the establishment and evolution of the Strategic Planning & Marketing, Business Transformation & Development, Project Management (PMO) and Finance functions to ensure continued growth.

Key objectives for the Strategy team included defining short, medium and long term needs, which initially involved building a small, highly focused Strategy team of two, which has subsequently evolved into a team of twenty individuals, encompassing strategy, marketing, business planning & analysis - Harcourt Matthews are preferred suppliers delivering this evolution

Key objectives for the Project Management team included defining short, medium and long term needs, which initially involved building a small, highly focused project team of 5/6 people, encompassing strategic PMO and end-to-end project management with a focus on delivery, supporting the shaping of partnership, it's support services, and the business re-engineering of the firm  - Harcourt Matthews are preferred suppliers delivering this evolution

Key objectives for the Finance, Tax & Treasury team included defining short, medium and long term business needs and the development of the Business Support Services Commercial Finance, Reporting, Divisional Finance and Business Management teams - Harcourt Matthews are preferred suppliers delivering this evolution

Harcourt Matthews have supported Linklaters talent acquisition programmes in a number of ways and through phases over the past two decades

Phase 1
Strategy Manager and Strategic Marketing Manager were sought from the premier or Top tier Strategy/  Management Consulting firms. Harcourt Matthews adopted a campaign approach encompassing Sunday Times and other advertising alongside a Search & headhunting programme

Phase 2
The new team had clearly enabled the business development of the firm through strategic analysis and influence in the development of new markets, alliances and acquisitions which meant talent & resources were thinly spread, and combined with the demands from operations meant that the team was seen as a "senior management seed bed" for talent - team members with individuals moving on into the business. Harcourt Matthews supported the evolution of the team

Phase 3
Strategy & Divisional Business Management team development: Business Planners, Business Analysts, Business Managers, Strategy Managers were subsequently recruited to build and succeed those on the move internally

Phase 4
As a result of our successful recruitment management, we were invited to supply Accounting and Finance middle and senior management roles including: Financial Accountants; Treasury Advisor; Group Reporting Analysts; Financial Analysis Manager; Financial Controller; Tax Advisor; International Tax Manager; Financial Analysts; Partnership Accountant; Division Commercial Accountant; Management Accountants amongst others.

Additionally, we have subsequently supported recruitment for Client Relationship and Business Manager roles.

Internal reviews of existing and new businesses identified the need to leverage higher calibre and quality staff for head office, regions and Contracts / Projects accounting & finance staff amongst other functions including Procurement, HR and Contract Management. The Group MD and the CFO sought to make step changes in the level and capability of these teams and at the same time reduce the number of temporary staff within the whole business community in London and the rest of the UK.

Several key objectives were highlighted, including:

  • Development & replenishment of the existing teams and the increase in depth of capability & calibre of individuals within the organisation which has under gone rapid growth and business transformation
  • Identifying commercially and technically focused individuals to evolve best practice in Accounting & Finance, Procurement, HR and Contract Management specifically in planning & analysis, forecasting, reporting commercial financial control

Harcourt Matthews established several recruitment campaigns and a range of candidate sourcing processes to attract a wide range of candidate talent, encompassing:

  • Accessing our network & extensive CV database, existing contacts and gaining new referrals / recommendations
  • Accessing several jobsite CV databases covering the active UK candidate market
  • Advertising on several job boards
  • Using our internal and several 3rd party outsourced research businesses contracted to identify and to supply scarce candidate resource (passive & non active people)
  • Specific sector headhunting campaigns complementing the above approach
  • Direct mail-shot programmes to specific accounting & finance trained CIMA, ACCA and ACA individuals who fulfilled the accounting & finance job specification & brief

This has resulted in supporting the recruitment of several qualified & part qualified accountants and accounting staff for the UK business. and Procurement, HR and Contract Managers and inclusion as a preferred supplier list for the UK business.
